Traveling this Holiday Season? Here are a Couple Ways to Stay Healthy!
Many of us this holiday season will be traveling around to be with family. Chances are it could get the best of us. While holiday traveling may be great, it may mess with your psyche and take a toll on your health. Traveling can disrupt your sleep schedule and eating habits, which all can lower your immune system to fight off cold and flu germs, making you more prone to getting sick. Here are 5 ways to stay healthy during your holiday travel!
Plan Your Meals! While traveling be sure to pack a healthy snack or lunch. It’s difficult these days to get a good meal in while you’re on the go. Most airports are only filled with fast food, therefore packing a bag of nuts or few low-sugar energy bars are essential!
Get Enough Sleep! Before you get on the go, be sure to get a good nights rest the night before. If you pack everything early you will be able to sleep in without being rushed in the morning. This way you will feel strong and refreshed if you have a long road trip ahead of you. If you have a flight to catch, be sure to use that in-flight pillow and blanket!
Be Active! If you have a long flight or long car drive, be sure to get a little exercise in to boost your energy. During your flight make a few trips up and down the aisle, even if you don’t need to use the restroom. In the car, take breaks every two or three hours for some fresh air.
Skip the Caffeinated Drinks Alcohol beverages and caffeinated drinks may enhance jet-lag. Be sure to stay away from these beverages because they may enhance symptoms such as fatigue, dizziness, headaches, or mental grogginess. Water should be your best friend during traveling! Try taking an empty water bottle with you and filling it up with fountain water after passing security, it will keep you hydrated and healthy!
Avoid Splurge and Starve Cycle! Be sure not to starve yourself this holiday season after over indulging in a big meal. Remember that moderation is the key to success! Always have small meals throughout the day instead of one large meal at once. By having small meals you will boost your metabolism!
